USES OF COMPUTER IN THE SOCIETY
The introduction of computer has brought efficient services to mankind with people having to do less work. For examples computer has greatly improved the world’s communication technology. It is therefore important for one to become computer literate so as to be able to fit into the changes brought about by the computer technology for an improved standard of life with less stress.
Today, system, education, medical services, advanced productivity, research, military and collection.
Computer has greatly improved the services in the banking sector. Because of computer network in banks, one easily transfers money very quickly from one bank to another. In the same way, lodgment and withdrawal of money from banks have become much easier.
Furthermore, banking operations have become more accurate with the introduction of computers.
The contribution of computer in the learning process cannot be over emphasized. Computer has made learning and teaching easier. Today, people can receive lectures in the computer through the computer software. This is usually called Computer Aided Learning (CAL). The software impart knowledge by displaying the lectures for easy understanding. Some Educational bodies such as Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), West African Examination Council (WAEC), depend heavily on computer for their activities.
Computer is used in medical services in the following ways;
Diagnosis of illness:
The modern world uses sophisticated machine machines in the diagnosis patients.
Prescription of drugs:
Certain computers can prescribe the correct drugs for treating patient after a diagnosis.
Monitoring of Health Condition:
Computers are used to monitor blood pressure or temperature of a person(s)
Much of the production processes nowadays are computerized, In fact, there are men like machines called ROBOTS. These robots are computerized and can work even in environments where men may not be able to function. They can work without being tired.
Computer is now used in almost all the section of the military. Both the warfare and equipment have all become advanced, sophisticated and computerized. The following are some of the ways computer is applied in the military.
Guided Missile
Modem military sector use computer in directing and controlling missiles to a desired target. For Example, in the 1991 Gulf war between Iraq and the United States of America was able to hit targets in Iraq by the use of computer operated missiles known as B56. These missiles travelled
Hundreds of kilometers to hit their targets in Iraq under the control of computers.
Monitor/Assesing Opponents through Satelites.
Also by means of satellites which are highly computerized, the military can now monitor and Assess its enemy’s buildup deployment, streghth, etc.
Computer is now used as a means of generating revenue many computer training colleges and centers have turned money making enterprises through browsing, typesetting and mailing.
Computer is now used especially in advanced countries to ensure that adequate data of individuasnarencollectednfor incorrect assessment and taxation.
