What is window?
This is a movable resizable area of the screen were information are display , it is an operating system soft ware, the operating system use window to operate information, therefore, we call it “window operating system.
FEATURES OF MICRO SOFT WINDOW
v WINDOW EXPLORER: it is an easy way of browsing and managing networks, drives and file.
v LONG FILE NAME: window can accommodate a long file name up to 255 characters.
v MULTIPLE TASKING: this means two/more programs can be running simultaneously.
v SHUTTING DOWN THE COMPUTER: this means powering off your computer system.
v WINDOW ACCESSORIES: media, games, calculator.

STARTING YOUR COMPUTER
Before powering your computer make sure that all the necessary cables are properly connected, Make sure that floppy disk drive contains no diskette. The reason for this is as soon as your computer is put on; the system will start checking all the necessary cables, to make sure all are ready for use.
BOOTING
It is the process by which the computer checks all computers, to ensure all are ready to do work at once.
TYPES OF BOOTING
v COLD BOOTING: this means starting the computer by punching the power button of your system and the power button of your monitor.
v WARM BOOTING: it is the process of reloading the computer without punching the power button and waiting for the computer to check itself and the device.
PROCEDURES OF COLD BOOTING
· Press the power button of your system, and the power button of your monitor (if Desktop).
· Computer goes through the process of booting
· After booting the computer displays the windows desktop with mouse Pointer, confirming that booting has done.
PROCEDUCE FOR WARM BOOTING/SHUTING DOWN
· Click on start button
· Select shutdown/turn off computer
· A dialogue box will appear (Windows XP)
· Click shutdown/ turn off and restart
HOW TO CHANGE THE DESKTOP BACKGROUND
· Right click on empty area of desktop environment.
· Click properties/personalize, on the fly out that will appear select desktop/background on the background list view.
· Select the desired wallpaper.
· Click apply and OK/just click OK
HOW TO SET A SCREEN SAVER
· Right click on empty area of the desktop, click properties/personalize, select screen saver tab
· Select desired screen saver from the list box, click setting, specify the number of minutes to wait before it will be activated and click OK.
NOTE: A screen saver will be activated if no key is pressed/mouse moved before the specified minutes. To return to your work simply shake the mouse or press any button on your keyboard.
HOW TO CREATE A FOLDER ON A FOLDER
· Open the location were your want create the folder
· Click on file menu
· Point at new
· Click folder, a folder will appear with a blinking cursor giving you the opportunity to give the folder a name, type a name you want to give the folder and press enter key.
CREATING A FOLDER ON DESKTOP
· Right click on empty environment on the desktop.
· Point new.
· Click folder, a folder will appear with a blinking cursor giving you the opportunity to give the folder a name, type a name you want to give the folder and press enter key.
HOW TO COPY A FILE TO A FOLDER
· Open the folder that bears the file you want to copy,
· Select the file your want copy
· Click on edit menu
· Select copy
· Close the folder
· Open the folder you want to copy the file into
· Click on edit menu select paste.
HOW TO DELETE A FILE ON A FOLDER
· Right click on the file
· Click on delete
· A dialogue will appear
· Click yes.
RECYCLING BIN
It is where the entire deleted files are stored.
HOW TO RESTORE A FILE FROM A RECYCLING BIN
· Double click on recycling bin icon on the Desktop
· Select the file you want restore
· Click on file menu
· Select restore
HOW TO EMPTY RECYCLING BIN
· Double click on recycling bin
· Click on file menu
· Select empty recycling bin
· A dialogue box will appear
· Click yes
